Slow Drift - Ambient-minimalistic music featuring the Roland XP30 digital synthesizer
I've been wanting to do a video featuring one of my all time favorite instruments, the Roland XP30. It's a pretty old keyboard I've had since the mid 2000's, but still continues to inspire me for new music creation. For this creation I was thinking along the lines of "Hearts in space," which is a weekly syndicated public radio show that features ambient and electronic genres.

And now for a little something different! Recently my wife and I visited the Salvador Dali Museum in St Petersburg, Florida. This trip had been on our bucket list for at least 25 years. In college I was introduced to the mind blowing work of this amazing one of a kind artist! SLOB was inspired by Dali's paintings. Do yourself a favor and make time to go to this museum as you won't be disappointed!

And now something different for my viewers! I've long been a fan of the melodica keyboard, which some people think is a toy piano. Far from being a toy it is an instrument that has a sound all of it's own, much like a harmonica and is capable of producing many tones and pitch inflections! Bluesette was originally recorded in 1962 by the great harmonica/guitarist Toots Thielemans. Beautiful tune...

I hope you enjoy this spontaneous jam as well as the eclipse-wherever you are in the United States!

      Thank you Rick! I always love it when things happen quickly as this one did. Two tracks of keyboard- all recorded and mixed in less than an hour. The XP30 is my least expensive ($400 used) investment. Incredible bang for the buck. I actually used it on a few gigs and it covered most bases pretty well, back in the day. Thanks again for supporting what I do! Hope to be hearing something new from you soon😊

    Kyle - Great to see another one of your synth explorations! Love the sounds at about the 1:20 mark. It's such a blast to explore with these. And I'm totally jealous that you made it to the Dali museum! Dali was the first visual artist that ever had an impact on me and basically opened me up to appreciating painting and sculpture. The Art Institute in Chicago had a nice retrospective of his work two years ago that I attended and loved. Keep twiddling those knobs, my friend!

    • @KyleWhitlock-Music
      @KyleWhitlock-Music 27 днів тому

      Thanks Rick! I hope you can go to the museum someday. The whole facility is just out of this world. To see the Dali sculptures outside of the main facility near the gardens was so cosmic. The Dali dome with 360 video/sound was something to behold! Inside the main facility they have an area with goggles that you put on..another immersive artificial reality video audio experience. Remember the paintings of the elephants with long spindly legs? Well you get to experience that and it looks So real. Anyway that you turn your head you exist in the Dali environment. Totally psychedelic experience!

      Hi Rick! As always again and again- Thank you from the bottom of my heart for your kind remarks, really appreciated here! I busted tail on this one. Not happy with video and this exposes my limitations as a video editor. I wish I could go back in time and take a course.. Video in retrospect has very little drama and I really wish that I had included video of the 2 instruments (organ and synth) that played the melody part on the "chorus." Trying to figure out just what to put in a self produced video for me is so HARD. My next goal is to learn how to do split screen video editing, although I fear I've nearly run out of processing power at this point... and Dread the thought of rebuilding my DAW setup on a new computer!!!!! Anyway the challenge I guess is that we have to keep it flowing and Interesting. I'm extremely amazed at your video composition, and don't have a clue how you do what you do.
